Skookum Flats Mt Rainer 12/2012

Actually wanted to do the Greenwater/ Echo Lakes trail today but as we drove our 9 miles into the mountains the snow started falling thicker and faster. With 5 kids, 2 dogs, and no service I got nervous and turned around. We did get out and enjoy a bit of the falling snow before we moved on.

Kids loved the snow.  I wish i would of been more prepared!

Lots of forest employee’s on 410 today because of the many tree cutting places around. We stopped and talked to one asking about any hikes around the area ( as we had no service to look up another) He pointed us in a direction and we headed off.
Turned down a road with a sno-park sign and found the Skookum Flats trailhead! What a great find for us.

Kids ALL smiled! Its a Christmas Miracle!
(well almost all...Riley Faye)

Although it was pouring rain the huge old growth trees kept us pretty dry while underneath them. We loved the beauty of this trail. The huge trees, meadows of moss and the raging river.

A very easy hike for kids or newcomers to hiking. We walked about 1.5 miles in and decided to eat some lunch. Found a nice spot along the river.

We decided to walk back because it was getting late and we were soaked to the core. I am definitely coming back to this one to hike the full monty.

I loved the beauty! Trail was in great condition and was only us!
Feel like this is a hidden wonderland :)
Love you Riley, Kelsey, Jackson and Karlea! <3
